However, he/she loses all interest in the role and thinks that he/she cannot reveals his potential. The idea arises that he/she does not provide benefit to the company because he/she won't be able to use his/her knowledge and talent. In this direction, he feels sad that he cannot be appreciated individually.
How does bore out syndrome occur?
In the book "The New Bore out Work Syndrome" by Peter Werder and Phillippe Rothlin, the emergence of the syndrome is described with three characteristics:
• Indifference resulting from a lack of identification with work.
• Distress, disability, indifference and suspicion that the employee does not know what to do during the day.
• Feeling wasted with monotonous, meaningless tasks; a sense of being able to give or not giving everything.
What should managers do to prevent their employees from having bore out syndrome?
Here's what managers need to do to fight bore out syndrome in the company;
• First, managers should focus on their employees rather than on themselves. Only "I" oriented executives can do important tasks themselves and engage employees under unnecessary small details. The drudgery causes the employee to feel "inability to use his capacity".
• Managers should be aware of how long it takes for tasks. An action taken by the employee to improve himself/herself should be welcomed while he is at leisure. For example; if he reads books, watches something, and learns something on the internet to improve himself when there is no job, and gets a warning for this, that triggers bore out syndrome.
• Managers should take enough motivating steps and give the necessary feedback.
• Managers should keep away their employees from being as monotonous and chore-free as possible.
• Managers should give responsibility to their employees to avoid bore out syndrome and encourage teamwork; authority, roles and functions should be clearly defined, and communication networks should be strengthened.
• Of course, HR has the most critical job. When bore out syndrome is experienced, it is imperative to define responsibilities and to review the recruitment. For example, you should not compete to hire the best-qualified person. Instead, it is necessary to consider how much performance the company executives and HR can employ the employees.
