WHAT IS ECOTOURISM? TURKEY'S POPULAR ECOTOURISM ROUTES

Lying on the beach as if you want to get rid of the tiredness of the year, discovering new tastes, getting lost among the natural beauties, staying in a camp or maybe a holiday village... Well, what would be your answer if we said that a completely different understanding of holiday is possible? We are talking about a holiday concept that respects nature and is harmless without participating in the unconscious consumption of natural resources. Increasing in popularity, ecotourism invites us to a new sustainable holiday approach by acting responsibly.

What is Ecotourism?

Ekoturizm Nedir

The concept of ecotourism started to become popular in the 1990s. Briefly, ecotourism can be defined as traveling with an understanding that protects the environment and protects the welfare of the local people. Today, with factors such as the rapid depletion of natural resources and the climate crisis, the concept of ecotourism is also expanding. While traveling with an ecotourism approach, concepts such as ecological balance, environmentalism, and zero waste gain importance and a natural holiday. Thanks to the ongoing ecotourism practices in many countries, the wildlife is protected while the local people are strengthened economically. In our country, the General Directorate of Forestry is working on an Ecotourism Action Plan that will cover the entire country. A short time ago, 19 ecotourism routes were created in 17 provinces by the General Directorate of Forestry.

Turkey's Most Popular Ecotourism Routes

Many regions have adopted ecotourism principles in our country, which has an entirely different beauty in each area. Many farms, hotels, and ecological villages are waiting for their guests with their practices that respect nature, from waste management to organic agriculture. Here are the most popular destinations of domestic environmental tourism...

Kazdaglari, Balikesir

Kazdağları

With its untouched nature, Kazdağları is ideal for integrating with nature. Providing the opportunity to refresh in the calm waters of Zeytinli Stream, Hızır Kamp takes care of the ecological balance. In this destination, you can stay in your tent or the bungalows and treehouses offered by Hızır Kamp. Thanks to its location with no internet and no phone pickup, Hızır Kamp offers complete isolation. Furthermore, in order to reduce its carbon footprint, ecological agriculture is also carried out in Hızır Kamp, which produces its electricity from solar energy panels.

Uludag, Bursa

Belentepe Permaculture Farm, which proves that a sustainable understanding of life is possible, is located on the skirts of Uludağ. Organizing various activities for a life in harmony with nature, this farm invites us to be a part of the solution, not the problem. There is also a very pleasant Hobbit House among the different accommodation options on the farm.

Yaniklar Village, Fethiye

Yanıklar Köyü

Located in a cabin in a valley covered with pine forests, Pastoral Valley Ecological Life Farm has a rich biodiversity. This living space, which welcomes its visitors in houses designed with an ecological architectural understanding, can be visited at any time of the year. The Pastoral Valley also hosts yoga camps and retreats, and meditation workshops. During the summer months, special children's camps are organized for children with the participation of families.

TaTuTa Ecology Farms

Çiftlik evleri

TaTuTa (Agricultural Tourism in Ecological Farms and Volunteer Knowledge, Experience Exchange), a project carried out by the Wheat Association, provides the opportunity to be volunteers and visitors in ecological farms. As a result, 30 farms affiliated with the formation are engaged in activities that support sustainable living. These farms, which have many different functions from beekeeping to certified organic agriculture, accept visitors on a unique calendar.

Kartepe, Izmit

Kartepe

Kartepe, which is among the ecotourism routes determined by the General Directorate of Forestry, has a different beauty in every season of the year. Kartepe, which is frequently preferred for ski tourism due to its proximity to Istanbul, hosts many natural beauties. Stallion Stream, Long Field with Samanlı Mountain View, and Sarımeşe, famous for its cultural festivals, are the first to come to mind when Kartepe is mentioned. In addition, Ormanya, Europe's largest natural habitat, is located in Kartepe. Ormanya consists of 12 different regions, including nature trails, wildlife habitats, horse riding, and camping.
