Established by the popular poet and author Sunay Akın on April 23, 2005, Istanbul Toy Museum houses the most distinguished examples of toy history from the 1700s until today. The toys bought and collected from the collectors, antique shops and auctions during the travels of Sunay Akın in more than 40 countries in around 20 years are exhibited in a historical mansion for those who are curious about. These special toys also present the world’s history to its visitors in an enjoyable and catchy way (For instance, Moon landing efforts are told in the section where space toys are exhibited). Thanks to all these characteristics, the museum attracts not only kids but also young people and adults by offering an opportunity to three generations to spend joyous time together.
We have already mentioned that Istanbul Toy Museum was established by the popular poet and author Sunay Akın. And the decoration of the museum was made by the stage designer Aydan Doğan. The Toy Museum is “the first museum in the world” that is established by a poet and designed by a stage designer.
We have shared the unique atmosphere and establishment story of Istanbul Toy Museum with you. Now, if you wish, let’s look at what you need to know before visiting the museum. Here’s a short guide to the Toy Museum!
