Many of us sometimes feel demotivated at the workplace. Motivation is particularly low during the summer. When we consider the effect of motivation at work has on success, we realize that this is a topic that needs to be addressed. But don’t worry! With a few basic changes in the way we think and plan, it is possible to raise decreased motivation during the summer months. So how is this done? Here are the answers...
What’s your purpose?
You get up every morning and go to work. When you started work, you had a purpose. You used to say “I’ll be a very successful manager” or “I’ll earn a lot of money”. However, as time went by you have forgotten why you started this job. It is therefore time that you returned to that initial reason. After all, that reason is what used to make you go to work so enthusiastically! So, if you always keep your reason for beginning the job and your goals in mind, this will naturally motivate you and give you a reason for going to work every day.
Do you have a plan for the day?
In the summer months in particular everyone feels frustrated and therefore do not use their time efficiently. Do you plan for what you are going to do that day? Planning in this way is very important for increasing motivation. This is because as the heat of the summer months increases, motivation and energy dramatically decreases. Making a plan for the day means that you can comfortably get through that day. For example, after getting the difficult jobs out the way, you can focus on the easier ones.
How well do you get on with your workmates?
Whatever the season, it is very important to maintain good relationships with your colleagues. This is because very few people in an office environment are able to work in isolation. If relationships are poor, and you are trying to communicate with people you don’t like, this has a significant effort on motivation. It is for this reason that you should establish relationships that have a positive effect on your motivation and mental health. Remember that a negative and unhealthy relationship will drain your energy. Such a relationship should be transformed into a healthy one.
Do you pay enough attention to your successes?
With the rapid tempo of business life, without enjoying one success we embrace the expectation of the next success. Neither of them satisfy us and we want more. This leads us to assume a negative mental state. If you finish a job or are successful, you should fully appreciate it. Completely feel all of the difficult aspects, the positive aspects, the successes and the happiness.
Do you go on short getaways?
Planning and making fundamental changes in the way you think is very motivating. But on the other hand, demotivation can also be reversed with more concrete things. For example, at certain times of the day you can listen to music that won’t distract you, or you can have small healthy snacks or summery drinks. Alternatively, during coffee breaks you can talk to colleagues about a topic other than work. Taking steps such as these can really help to increase motivation.
Is your working environment special to you?
As with everything, a sense of belonging in your working environment is extremely important. It is hard to feel motivated in an environment where you do not have the sense of belonging. Providing your working environment with something special to you will help you have a sense of belonging at work. If you have a room, make small changes according to the season and place individual accessories on your desk. Keep objects around that have a positive effect upon you.
