Underestimation is one of the problems with which women often come across. These kinds of behaviors of professionals in business life can decrease the motivation of woman entrepreneurs.
2. Trying to please everyone
Because of the cultural traits, it is believed that behaving well to others and pleasing everybody is an obligation for women. Naturally, this thought pattern makes women feel as if they have to please everybody in the business life.
3. Lack of equality in opportunity
Due to some stereotypes of a traditional society such as motherhood, consortship or being a housewife, women feel themselves under pressure. This also a direct cause of gender discrimination cases for women in their business life. For example, some companies with these kinds of tendencies do not employ women who think to marry or have a child.
Another hardship with which women have to face is stress sources such as mobbing, sexual harassment and dress codes. Dress code policies of some companies for women employees make them feel restricted. Problems like mobbing, verbal and sexual harassment can affect their relationship with friends, their motivation and, naturally, their success.
5. The Balance between work and private life
Due to all above-mentioned problems, women can face difficulties when balancing their career and private life. It is believed that women should take care of husband and children after the work. This creates stress and some women prefer to becoming distanced from business life, or it leads the breakdown of marriages
6. Occupational discrimination
The perception of that women cannot do particular jobs is another problem with which women have to face in their careers. Many occupations are discriminated among the public as “it’s a man thing” or “it’s a woman thing”. This is one of the factors that hinder women from performing their own jobs.
7. Nonduty expectations
In business life, women come across with some situations in which others expect them to perform a different duty rather than their regular jobs. In some companies, the coworkers may expect that women should make tea service, clean or open the doors etc.
8. Sensuality as an excuse
Another difficulty for women in their business life is that people believe in that they are not appropriate for a position as “they are sensual”. Due to this belief, some professionals think that women are lack of management skills and they sometimes seek to prevent career development of women.
Taking measures to prevent and solve these kinds of problems with which women may come across in their business life is really important as these measures will definitely make them more happy, more calm, and more productive. This will affect Turkish society positively.
